Sunday 11 November 2018 marks the 100th anniversary of the Armistice which ended the First World War (1914–18).

On this day, Australians will observe a one minute silence at 11 am, in memory of those who died or suffered in all wars and armed conflicts. This annual event has become better known as Remembrance Day After World War 2.

On that day, a special commemorative service will be held at Anzac Centenary Park at Shore Street West, Cleveland, commencing at 10:30 am.

Prior to the Service, a Troop Train will arrive at Cleveland Train Station carrying troops from Enoggera Barracks who will then march up Shore Street East to participate in the Remembrance Day Commemorative Service.

A specially commissioned 'Troop Train' will travel across Brisbane's City Train Network in the lead up to Remembrance Day 2018, in tribute to the Centenary of Armistice, veterans and current service personnel.

Designed by Redlands RSL Sub Branch, the train will feature the distinctive lone soldier and red poppy, symbolising the lives lost on the Western Front during World War 1.

Many troops travelled by train to fight in WW1 and WW2, starting their journey from country towns. During WW2, as many as 50 trains a day passed through the NSW-QLD border town of Wallangarra carrying troops.

Not only is this an important date for commemorative purposes, but the Troop Train is a sure way of bringing history to life, and will provide a visual lesson to our youngest generation.
