All across Australia at your work place, at your school, at your RSL, at your community meeting, and even during your game of sport, the nation will stop for one minute of total and complete silence.

This is a silence of deep abiding respect for those brave soldiers that fought and died, and who still fight for Australia to remain a free nation.

Australia will be a sea of red on the day because of those wearing red poppies in support of our diggers. These traditional red poppies came from the World War I battlefields of northern France and Belgium and the belief was that the reason the poppies were so red is because they grew from the blood stained war grounds.

%%The time is always the same at 11:00 am.
The day is always the same the 11th day.
The month is always the same the 11th month, November. %%

The silence is heartfelt and thankful for those who have fallen in war for our country, especially since World War I. At many places, the "Last Post" will be played by a bugler, who is a member of defense. And Australians will stop whatever they are doing, possibly stand or just bow their heads and wing prayers to those who have died before and to those who are serving now.

Families at RSL's around the country will quietly contemplate the photos and memorabilia, around them of their local heroes. while holding their grandchildren and friends close, during this one extraordinaire minute of honour.

At the Shrine of Remembrance in Melbourne, our current Governor of Victoria, former judge, Linda Dessau, Victoria's first female governor, will address all who attend, including our diggers, their families, our armed force members, our Cadets, and our schools as they lay their formal wreaths, photos, and reflective mementos of lost ones.

Then all can continue inside the Shrine and watch in wonder as the sun passes across the "Stone of Remembrance", landing on the word 'LOVE' around noon.

The Galleries of Remembrance, via the Visitors Centre, will of course be open free to the public from 10 am to 5 pm with last admission at 4.30 pm for people to continue their journey of thanks.

See the website www.shrine.org.au/remembranceday for further details.

And as this is a very special year as it is our 100th commemorative year, if you have never had the privilege to attend Remembrance Day in the past, make this year that one special year for you and your family to attend proudly wearing red poppies.

Lest we forget.
