Glamping to Make a Difference
For an overnight experience like no other Cancer Council Queensland's Relay For Life certainly brings people together for a good cause – raising funds for cancer research, early detection programs and assistance for those with cancer.
My first Relay For Life was many years ago now. The feeling I had about contributing to a worthy cause was at the forefront of my mind but it was also about spending time with close friends celebrating the good and not so good times cancer had bought to our group.
The event was great as we dressed up in theme and camped out for the night together – not a regular Saturday night! The facilities were so well organised it could have been called glamping! Prior to the event we had a competition between ourselves to fundraise the most money beforehand.
One of the most moving parts was the survivor and carers walk. It was great to be able to recognise the efforts that people put in every day with their loved one and the battles that have been won. During the night there was music and games which was a lot of fun. Walking around the oval for an hour was a highlight as some people walked it, some people ran but everyone had a good time.
Thank you so much for writing this awesome article and helping us spread the word about the Springfield Relay For Life! Kind regards, Ana Russell, Relay For Life Coordinator, Cancer Council Queensland.
