5 Relaxing Ways to Spend a Winter's Day

Enjoy these activities without even leaving the house

When it's pouring down outside, the last thing you want to do is leave the comfort of your own home. Here are some ideas to turn your day at home around and leave you without getting cabin fever.

Bake

If the smell of baking bread leave you salivating or the whiffs of spices from a batch of freshly made muffins makes you hungry, then why not bring out your inner baker and get baking? There is such a satisfying feeling of baking your own bread and seeing exactly what you are putting into it. If you have yeast and flour you can pretty much create any type of bread you want. Add some herbs or garlic to it or rosemary; the spice cupboard is your oyster.

Baking doesn't just have to be about bread. If you have some bananas going old then why not make banana bread? There are literally so many tasty treats you can bake so pull out some old recipe books or do some searches and see what goodies you come up with.

As well as warming up the house and making your family and friends love you, you will also have tasty treats to take with you to work and save yourself from those expensive café prices.

Pay Your Sleep Debt

We all have busy lives, with early mornings and late nights the norm for a lot of people these days. Sleep debt is defined as the amount of sleep you should be getting minus what you actually get. The average amount of sleep that most individuals should be getting is said to be around eight hours per night.

With lack of sleep leading to increased irritability, weight gain, health problems, trouble remembering, depression and more, getting a good nights sleep is something we shouldn't ignore.
So draw the shades turn of the TV and all technology around and snuggle that blanket around you and let yourself fall asleep. Let your body sleep for as long as it needs.

While this won't clear your debt, it's a step in the right direction and a great way to feel more relaxed fresh and focused for the week.

To keep up this feeling try adding an extra hour or two onto your sleep each night. Go to bed when you start feeling tired, don't sleep with technology on, and wake up around the same time every morning whilst still trying to get your full eight hours. Once you have been doing this for a few weeks your body will start to adapt to a sleep pattern that suits you and you will notice your mood, memory and energy increasing.

Games Day

This works solo or with friends. If you are with friends then bust out some of the old board games and start playing - Monopoly, Scrabble and Cluedo are some faithful favourites. If you don't have any of these then the humble pack of cards provides endless options for card games whether with friends or solitary.

If you happen to own a PlayStation or Xbox or even better. have kids who do, then borrow theirs for the day, choose a game you like, and get playing. If you are looking for a better selection of games then visit your local video store where you can pick one up. Video games are a great escape from reality and a great way to spend a rainy day.

Pamper Day

Like I said, we all have busy lives and sometimes forget to take care of ourselves. Why not treat yourself to an at home pamper day? Run a hot bath, pour a glass of wine and slip right in and feel your thoughts instantly drift away.

It is so nice sometimes to just completely relax be in the present moment and not thinking of the future or of the past but just pure relaxation. You could even light some candles and turn on some relaxing music to make the space more tranquil.

If you still have energy after your bath and feel like giving your hair and face a treat then look into your fridge and cupboards for a DIY face and hair mask. With just one avocado and half a tablespoon of honey you can create a hair mask, which works great on all hair types. There are so many variations you can make using different things.

Lemons and apple cider vinegar are great on oily hair and olive oil and eggs can turn dry frazzled hair into smooth and silky locks.

There are so many great DIY face masks out there. Your fridge is your playground, do some research see what is the best face mask for your particular skin type. If you are one of the many that happen to wake up with puffy under eye bags you can also apply cucumber or cold teabags to help reduce these.

So lock the doors, start running the bath and raiding the fridge and get ready for some pamper time.

If you have some old photos laying around in drawers from your holiday five years ago then why not have a go at scrapbooking them? Anyone can scrapbook and turn memorable photos into creative albums that will last forever.

Most dollar shop type places sell basic scrapbooking stuff quite cheaply so you are able to pick up a few bits and pieces to have your own play around with at home. The best thing about scrapbooking is there is no right or wrong and you already have the best tools to work with which are your amazing photos. So really you are just making a good thing better.

If you need help for inspiration there are a lot of websites with handy hints and good designs for new scrapbookers. A quick Google search can find a multitude of these. So next time when friends or relatives come around you can impress them with your awesome photos and your creativity.
