Teenagers are attracted to energy healing and Reiki because it is non-confrontational. Today, they need to be able to cope with peer-group pressure, education stresses as well as the changes that come with family breakdown.
Reiki is one of the oldest and most recognised modalities of energy healing and is characterised by the silent work of the practitioner, who acts as a conduit for healing energy to promote relaxation, balance and well-being. It is not uncommon for the recipient to feel 'warm' or to see colours and visions throughout the Reiki healing as these are signs of frequencies or energy being altered. Like all energy healing, Reiki works with the recipients 'soul permission' to change energy signatures, thoughts or emotional blockages so that a higher state of peace and settlement can be reached.
Reiki is part of mind-spirit medicine, recognising that the cause of physical distress may come from emotional worries or imbalances. Increasingly, children and teenagers are experiencing radical and sudden changes in their lives which they may be ill-equipped to handle, understand, or even express. When this happens, thoughts and imbalances may become trapped in the body and emotional problems are left to fester or worsen. Reiki changes energy signatures so that emotional disturbances are settled, enabling recovery and healing.
Reiki and other forms of energy healing work on the subconscious level, without overwhelming your child or teenager with reasons, causes and mind-boggling analysis. What they are asked to do, is lie on a table and receive 'a healing': this equates to listening to soft, relaxing music while resting.
Strangely enough, most children intuitively understand what 'energy' is and will gladly try Reiki or energy healing. If they drift-off to sleep - that is a part of it, signifying that the Reiki is working to settle issues at the root or subconscious level. As this is achieved, you will find that your child becomes more self-aware 'naturally' and is then better equipped to share problems and work through them, as if by 'magic'.
Common issues that children confront can be as diverse as: parental or family breakdown, asthma and other allergies, bullying, learning difficulties, responses to change, sibling rivalry, bed-wetting and sleep disturbances. For teenagers, the most common concerns are VCE and study pressures and social-group and family challenges. They may include: difficulties fitting in at school, coping with new relationships, and of course, the effects of family violence or breakdown. Preventative health should also be considered. If your child is confronting one of these changes and appears to be coping, introducing them to energy healing now improves their ability to adapt, self-nurture and to recognise the signs when they may need assistance later in life. This is particularly important for boys who are under pressure very early to cope, and who may not be as emotionally transparent as girls.

Ann Wherry, of Golden Light Energies, is a Reiki Master and Vibrational Balancing Practitioner and Consultant. As a mother of four and grandmother of six, she is well aware of the pressures that young children and teenagers confront today and gladly extends her healing practice in Ringwood to children and young people. At the beginning of the Reiki session, Ann has a chat to the parent or guardian and will also brief them again afterwards. Parents of young children are also allowed to be present during the actual session, if this is requested or seen to be of healing benefit. Generally, Reiki does not include counselling, but as imbalances become known, counselling may be advised as part of another or subsequent session.
After a Reiki session your child will generally be more relaxed. Ungrounded or ad-hoc behaviour such as anger spurts, withdrawal, depression and isolation or denial, are more settled or understood. Even though everyone responds to energy healing differently, you are likely to notice an improvement in your child's self-management strategies and they should enjoy better sleep. In the case of physical disturbances (e.g., eczema) those symptoms usually subside.
The cost for a 1-hour session with Ann is $100 which includes the parent-consultation and a 10mL bottle of vibrational essences.
