Having long desired a colourful set of wheels, I was over the moon to discover that the infamous bike company Reid Cycles from over east had set up shop in Perth. The brand boasts a range of bike styles, with the Ladies Vintage bikes in particular sparking my interest. With prices starting at a fairly affordable $219.00 for a single speed, the arrival of Reid cycles in Perth seemed too good to be true.
I visited the shop back in November. Having previously browsed their website, I knew exactly what I wanted in terms of colour and speed. Unfortunately, I discovered that, at the time, the shop didn't have any small bikes in my preferred speed and colour in stock. After informing one of the sales assistants, they reassured me that this problem could easily be fixed by ordering a bike in through the store. However, they let me know that it probably would not arrive until late January. This perplexed me a little, considering the Christmas rush was in full swing. I thought the shop would have been eager to meet presumably high customer demand. None the less, I placed my order and left feeling a bit deflated, having thought that I would walk out with my dream bike, but the prospect of its arrival kept me in high spirits.
Fast forward two months and there was no word of my bike's arrival on the promised date. A couple of phone calls later, it was revealed that the shipment had indeed arrived, but what I had specifically ordered, being a lavender Vintage Classic Single speed, had not. Reid constantly changes the colours available, and it dawned on me that the shop assistant had failed to consider this when taking my order back in October. Admittedly I felt a bit disappointed, but choosing a different colour was not a major issue. The upside of the whole debacle was that the shop assistant offered to upgrade the single speed to a six speed free of charge to amend their mistake.
I finally received my bike in early February. It is in excellent condition and is everything I could have wished for. Being a student, I recommend Reid cycles for its fairly decent prices, which is what drew me to the company in the first place. However, while my experience of customer service was handled well in the end, it could definitely improve. Let's hope it was just a matter of initial teething problems.
