Is this one of Adelaide's best breakfast views ?
Perched above the rowing clubs on the banks of the River Torrens is Regattas Bistro. The Bistro is so named to reflect the many years when rowing regattas between schools were a regular feature upon the Torrens Lake.

Regattas Bistro - Steve Hudson

Nowadays Regattas Bistro is a part of the growing Adelaide Convention Centre and Riverbank precinct and is the first of several restaurants and cafes expected to open along the Riverbank in 2015. Regattas offers some of the best views of the Torrens, Adelaide Oval, the footbridge and some of the better known pieces of public art in Adelaide. Regattas also has a special Sunday breakfast which took my fancy, and we headed there in anticipation.

Outstanding Views - Steve Hudson

On a menu which was built around a couple of staple dishes and a series of smaller tapas style breakfast dishes, we chose a selection from both areas.

Eggs Benedict - Steve Hudson

The Eggs Benedict arrived fully laden upon a single housemade English muffin. Two poached eggs coupled with some slices of real ham direct from the bone (don't you just love real ham at Christmas time), and some freshly boiled spinach were beautiful. The Hollandaise sauce ran perfectly, and had a sweet taste to it that counterbalanced the savoury taste of the other ingredients. This serving scored high in my personal rankings of good Eggs Benedict.

Toasted Dutch Fruit Loaf - Steve Hudson

For the tapas style breakfast we chose a serve of toasted Dutch fruit loaf, and some Greek yoghurt with fruit compote, granola and Kangaroo Island honey. The fruit loaf was one of the better loaves around town as it had more fruit than loaf. It wasn't quite a Lions' fruit cake, but it was leaps and bounds above what you receive in a Supermarket and some of the café chains.

Greek Yoghurt Compote - Steve Hudson

The Greek yoghurt came with a strawberry compote in the common serving container of an old jar. The Kangaroo Island honey oozing over the granola complete with a solitary strawberry on top completed a cool and appropriate dish for this warm summer's day.
