Looking for a 'real' cinema experience? Are you a 'Mature Discerning Movie Goer?' Then head to the Regal Twin in the delightful peaceful, leafy riverside suburb of Graceville on Brisbane's south side.



The boutique cinema in the village part of Graceville in Honour Street had been on my Brisbane 'must do' list for many years and so a trip on a warm Sunday afternoon was enticing with its air conditioning and a chance to experience a new suburb.

Entering the foyer is a hark back to a former cinema experience as befits the cinema established in 1922.



Its admission kiosk doubles as a candy bar and the twin cinema auditorium is just a step away.



It's an intimate affair with a seating capacity of 441 comfortable seats and room for four wheelchairs, all in air conditioning and the latest digital projection, with 3D and audio.



The website describes the building's history as 'one of the few surviving independent cinemas in Brisbane's suburbs, resisting the encroachment of multiplexes by dedication to showing a range of top-quality local and foreign films, and continues to be an important part of the community.'

The Regal Twin is certainly worth a trip, especially to make it an afternoon or evening out enjoying the delightful local eateries. I had time for a pre-movie pot of tea in the nearby Graceville Fine Foods and Deli that was busy with late Sunday lunch customers. The service was friendly with a tempting choice of cakes, pastries and gourmet quiches and pies.



Across the road was the Three Girls Skipping Cafe and adjacent to the cinema is the Forget Me Not Tea Room doubling also as a florist. Nearby is a greengrocer and butchers that you would expect to find in a village setting.



The Regal proclaims itself as 'the perfect venue to enjoy the best in European, British, foreign language, quality Australian and imported movies' and as a cinema for the 'Mature Discerning Movie Goer.'

Admission prices are on par with the multiplexes at weekends with special deals during the week, but it is worth the admission price to support an independent movie chain. And car parking is restriction free on-street right in the heart of the village or take a train to nearby Graceville station.

I for one will be back again and certainly make a day or night of.
