Reflections Restaurant is the in-house restaurant of Mercure Kangaroo Island Lodge at American River, where diners can experience dishes made from South Australia's finest produce and wine. The restaurant has won the 2017 and 2018 Food, Wine and Tourism Awards for Kangaroo Island.

The SA Rib Eye Steak that we ordered was a delight to eat with char-grilled flavour and succulent meat. Accompanying the steak was broccolini that still had a bite, fluffy roasted chat potatoes and charred shallots. Completing the dish was jus with a delectable savoury flavour.

Made with a combination of field and shimeji mushrooms, the Truffled Cream of Mushroom Soup had a delicious earthy flavour. A shaving of white truffle over the soup imparted a delectable umami flavour to the dish. Served with the soup was Parmesan toast to soak up the tasty soup.

A good choice for vegetarians, the linguine in the Basil Pesto Linguine was cooked al dente, and a generous amount of pesto gave the dish its distinctive flavour. Tossed through the pasta were field mushrooms and cherry tomatoes for extra elements of flavour. Toasted almonds provided a bit of crunch. We opted for the Parmesan cheese to be served separately so we can add as much as we want to the dish.

Great for sating your hunger while waiting for your main meals, the buttermilk fried chicken in the Tamarind Chicken was juicy with a crisp coating. The tamarind sauce the chicken was tossed gave the dish a tangy flavour.

Among the choices available for dessert, the Salted Caramel Chocolate Tart had a buttery pastry and a rich chocolatey filling. Accompanying the tart was a lovely moist brownie, along with almond praline and chocolate soil to provide a crunchy element to the dish. We chose to swap the dark chocolate ice cream for vanilla ice cream so we had a foil to the richer tasting tart and brownie.

Aside from dinner, Reflections Restaurant also offers breakfast with made-to-order omelettes. Customers have the choice of seating in the cosy indoor area or the outdoor patio area when the weather permits.
