Every year, Australia produces an estimated 67 million tonnes of waste, which amounts to almost 2,700kg per person. Furthermore, ground coffee waste makes up nearly 75,000 tonnes of this waste. The majority of this goes directly to landfills. There, it contributes significantly to climate change through the production of methane – a greenhouse gas which is 34 times more potent than carbon dioxide.
Furthermore, Australia's recycling industry is struggling, as Australians produce more recyclable goods than there are places for them to go. All of us need to change how we treat waste as individuals, as a community and as a municipality.
Most of us are aware of the fundamentals when it comes to waste: how to separate recyclables from other trash, and to put out the correct bin on bin day. However, how many of us stop and think about where this waste ends up, and what the impact of all this waste is?
Luckily, you can help to reduce this waste! In this online
workshop , you'll gain the tools to conduct a live waste audit at home and learn tips for reducing your household waste.
Kaitlin and Ninna from Reground will be streaming from their homes to demonstrate just how they conduct an audit on household waste so that you may learn how to do so. Furthermore, they hope to educate everyone on the importance of statistics and data for managing your individual or household environmental impact
