My partner's sister in Tasmania is a domestic goddess. She successfully decorates cakes, gardens, cooks and preserves her own harvest, as well as fulfilling all matriarchal duties as required. She is also a keen felter using the wool from her pet Alpacas.

The felt is produced by matting, condensing and pressing fibres together. It can vary in terms of fibre content, colour, size, thickness, density and more factors depending on the use of the felt. Helen successfully creates colourful scarves and jackets by felting, each piece being totally individual and infused with much love.

The annual Open Day of the Redlands Spinners and Weavers will be held on Tuesday, 21st June, in the Gallery Foyer & Auditorium, Redland Performing Arts Centre.

This is a huge event for this group who love to highlight and share their love of yarn.

Even, if like me, you have no interest in learning how to spin and weave, it will be worth dropping by just to appreciate the craft and creativity of the Helens of this world.

On the day there will be:

A display and demonstration of antique spinning wheelsA fashion parade of items made by members, with some articles for saleA rag matting demonstrationMember's handmade items for saleHandmade stationery and soaps for sale and pottery yarn bowls

Several suppliers will also be on site with a wide variety of yarns, fibres and equipment available for purchase.

The $5 entry fee includes morning tea and a lucky door prize. Doors open at 10 am and close at 3pm.

Parking at the Performing Arts Centre, at 16 Middle Street, Cleveland, is plentiful with a designated car park area and street parking. As well, it is situated opposite the Railway Station making it only an easy three minute walk.

What a shame the in-laws won't be in town for this event, as they are arriving a few weeks after this date, poor Helen looks like having to endure a Broncos game instead.
