This plant takes many forms
You don't have to be a gardener to appreciate the beauty of flowers in bloom. Last year I went to my first orchid show - and loved it!

Did you know that orchids belong to the most diverse of the flowering plant families, with over 25,000 species thriving in habitats as varied as tropical jungles to the Arctic Circle?

For centuries the orchid has been a symbol of love, luxury and beauty. Confucius once acknowledged "the association with a superior person is like entering a hall of orchids".

On Saturday 2nd May, the Redlands Orchard Society Autumn Charity Show will be held at the Donald Simpson Centre, 172 Bloomfield Street, Cleveland.

Make the journey to Cleveland and enjoy the magnificent display of blooms, and purchase all your orchid requirements, including plants. There will also be potting demonstrations, raffles and light refreshments.

Doors open at 8:30 am and close at 3:00 pm. The entry fee is $3.00 for adults, and no charge for children.

Funds raised from this Show are directed to the Redlands Hospital Auxiliary.

The Donald Simpson Centre has plenty of parking and is wheelchair friendly.

If you do catch the orchid bug, the Redlands Orchid Society welcomes new members, both experienced growers and novices. Refer to www.redlandsorchidsociety.org for more information.

I'm not thinking about taking up gardening as an interest, but I do look forward to a respite from the weekend chores by admiring these interesting plants in all their colourful glory.
