Singing for their supper- Redland Rhapsody Chorus
If you live in the Redlands, in Brisbane's southern bayside area, you would have crossed paths at some stage with the women's vocal group, the Redland Rhapsody Chorus. They have appeared in numerous performances at local shopping centres throughout the Festive season sharing the warmth of the Christmas spirit with carol singing, at local markets, as well as numerous community fundraising functions.
Recently, this local choir were advertising for new members in the local paper. Did you happen to see this at all ?
The Redland Rhapsody Chorus is a part of Sweet Adelines International, a highly respected worldwide organisation of women singers committed to advancing the musical art form of barbershop harmony through education, competition and performance. They are an independent, nonprofit music education association with one of the worlds largest singing memberships for women, starting back in 1945 and now covering 5 continents.
Sweet Adelines choruses and quartet sing a cappella, four-part harmony music covering many musical genres.
The groups next performance will be their annual fundraising venture : a Christmas in July performance on Saturday, 25th July, 2015. I believe that those newly recruited members will also be participating on the night and are hard at work honing their tonsils.
An A Cappella Christmas in July promises to be an evening of fun, song, and dance, which will include a Buffet as well as tea and coffee. Bar facilities will also be available.
There will also be raffles and a lucky door prize on the night at the Redland Memorial Hall at 44 Smith Street, Cleveland.
Tickets are $40.00 each and are available from www. Redlandrhapsody.org.au.
