Redcliffe on The Murray

Although I don't get down to Pinjarra very often, I was thrilled to discover a gorgeous restaurant called Redcliffe on the Murray. Situated on the banks of (you guessed it) the Murray River, this quaint establishment is housed some 100 metres from the Peel Zoo, on Sanctuary Drive in Pinjarra. My family and I were visiting the zoo, and didn't fancy the shop's coffee-machine caffeine hit, so were directed to the Redcliffe between animal feedings and rainfall.
We started with a mid morning pit stop of coffee and hot chocolate, before vowing to return after we'd done a lap of the zoo. The restaurant is a huge, converted barn with three different dining areas. There is a large outdoor area with shaded spots and a bridge from which you can cross over the Murray River, which I thought frankly is an awesome idea.
Adjacent to the outdoor area is the indoor dining area, which also has a stage area for their live music sessions each Sunday from 3pm-5pm. Next to that is a smaller, separate and cosier room with a wood-fired heater. No prizes for guessing where we sat on a winter's day.
The promise of a $10 pot pie, salad and chips was too much for my mother and I to resist, so we ordered accordingly. The Redcliffe offers $10 lunch specials from Wednesday to Friday, so look out for the signs advertising what's on.
The restaurant menu is a decent side with a wide variety of modern Australian choices, such as steaks, fish and chips and pastas. My sister opted for the chicken parmigiana and my daughter, Olivia, opted to throw her food on the floor (as usual) from the comfort of her highchair.
Mmm. Chicken and leek pot pie. It was delicious. The filling was tender and tasty and the pie topper crispy. It came with just the right amount of chips and a side salad with a light, tangy dressing.
My sister's chicken parmigiana was quite thick, a little too thick actually. Usually the breast is beaten to a pulp before being crumbed and fried but she ate and enjoyed it nonetheless. It was cooked to perfection despite the plumpness and we left happy and full.
Our visit to the Peel Zoo was certainly a lovely outing, but the Redcliffe on the Murray added a little extra something to our memorable day.
