Get your disco groove On
The Redcliffe Markets will be Staying Alive and taking on a disco vibe on Saturday 21st May in honour of the area's most famous singing sons - the Bee Gees.

Why the Bee Gees?

It is fitting that the theme and soundtrack for the Redcliffe Markets this May is the musical trio, the Bee Gees, since the Brothers Gibb (Robin, Barry and Maurice) grew up in the area after moving to Brisbane from Manchester in 1952.

After leaving the sandy shores of Redcliffe as young men with big musical dreams, they headed to the big city lights of New York City. Could the singing trio ever expect that they would become the kings of disco?

In fact, they wrote, sang and defined the soundtrack to the songs, fashion and dancing of the disco era of New York in the 70s with the soundtrack to the movie Saturday Night Fever.

This brought us notable songs of the era like 'Jive Talkin' and 'How Deep Is Your Love'. Over their stellar and celebrated career as the Bee Gees, Robin, Barry and Maurice Gibb amassed 23 Number One hits and sold more than 200 million albums. So there is a lot to celebrate.

So, from 4pm til 9pm, put on your platform shoes, silver medallion and flared pants and head to the Redcliffe foreshore for a night market where disco is king.

What's happening at the markets
The Redcliffe Markets are a family-friendly, free, outdoor local market in the Moreton Bay Region. The May Markets, named after one of the Bee Gees' highest-selling songs Night Fever, will take on a disco vibe while featuring over 250 stalls including some with farm-direct produce, gourmet food and provisions, artisan gifts, apparel, homewares and more.

Alongside the stalls, there will also be live Disco Dancers, a Barry Gibb Costume Competition a Bee Gees cover band, street food and sideshow alley and kids activities. The night will finish off with a burst of fireworks lighting up the seaside skies.

After visiting the markets, you might complete your experience by swinging by "Bee Gees Way", a free and permanent installation of photographs, films, status and of course music which pays tribute to the famous musical family who dominated the disco and post- 70s music scene.

The City of Redcliffe is situated 23 kilometres from the Brisbane Central Business District.

Gillian, isn’t there a lot of events happen now. Post covid is seeing a serge in events. It’s hard to know which one to attend but I love night markets.
