Make your Good Friday even greater by visiting the on Friday 15 April 2022 for a day of food, entertainment and fun for the whole family.
The annual festival returns with loads of free family-friendly activities by the seaside. The heart of the Festival of Sails neatly coincides with the Brisbane to Gladstone yacht race. Watch the start of the race from the shoreline as the watercrafts set sail in a Queensland competition and vie for exclusive bragging rights and line honours.
2022 marks the 74th year of the race which sees yachts form a spectacular floatilla as they raise their colourful sails to make their way across 308 nautical miles to Gladstone Harbour. The highly recognised event is organised and run by the Queensland Cruising Yacht Club, Brisbane's Northern Bay Yacht Club.
The race has certainly grown in entrants and nautical sophistication since its beginnings. The first race only included seven vessels at the starting line, two of which carried radios while Brisbane's Homing Pigeon Club supplied pigeons to the others for position reporting.
.
