is a homely second-hand book store located on Lygon St in East Brunswick with a small but excellent selection of poetry, art books, fiction, philosophy, and psychology. It also sells records. Though the store carries titles in popular fiction and other areas, its literary bent makes it especially suited to students, writers and devotees of the humanities.
The store is named after the poem by William Carlos Williams, and is run by a friendly and erudite couple. One is a Melbourne poet, and may be inclined to chat with you about Buddhism, Melbourne's poetry scene, and the author of the book you have just bought, generally with a toothpick lolling from the side of his mouth. The other is a French novelist, and has a wealth of anecdotes at her disposal. If you want to make her happy, bring up the essays of George Orwell. The two can often be found in the store together, reading, writing, and drinking tea or wine. They are often joined by a very small dog, whose name I do not know.
The store occasionally runs reading groups and events. Not so long ago, the owners converted the back room into a gallery rotating works by local artists.
Small and cosy, is a great place to get a quality book at a bargain, sell the classics you'll never read, or while away a half hour on a rainy afternoon.
