Local Adelaide craft markets
The Red Umbrella Market is a popular craft market held regularly at the Cumberland Park Community Centre south of Adelaide. These Sunday markets are very popular with locals as they are under cover and out of the weather, and there is a convenient playground next door offering fun for kids if they want to be outdoors.
If you're looking for handmade jewellery, retro fashion, kids' clothing, and handcrafted homewares, these indoor markets in Adelaide's inner suburbs are the place for you. After you have finished browsing the market stalls you can reward yourself with great coffee and cake, while you enjoy the free live entertainment.
Dear & Birch Handcrafted Homewares at This Craft Market in Adelaide
When I visited the Red Umbrella Market it was around lunchtime and the craft market was very busy. It was at its former location at the Goodwood Community Centre and I was able to get to the market stalls quickly. Passing the temptations of Dear & Birch handcrafted homewares, I decided to do a quick tour of the sellers' stands before making any purchases.
Handmade Jewellery Market Stall From Steven Corfield Designs
My resolution wasn't to last though - I picked up the spicy smell of hot savoury food from an oven as I passed. I'm a complete sucker for food from home made bakeries, and the kreopita - Greek style beef sausage rolls was enough to trap me (there was gluten free and vegan food available too). It made a really tasty snack to keep my stomach from rumbling as I continued browsing the market stalls.
There is a real sense of community at the Red Umbrella Market, with friendly stall holders smiling and happy to chat. The handmade market stalls included cheerful ladies from Flora Domestica, who specialise in handmade gifts and homewares.
Great Coffee and Cakes From Mr Barista SA at These Sunday Markets in Adelaide
Mr Barista SA was serving great coffee and cakes, which my companion was quick to road test. There's an eating area indoors where you can sit at tables and chat, or you can have lunch outside in the garden area next to the playground.
Free Live Entertainment and Fun for Kids at Red Umbrella Market
If you're looking for handmade gifts at the Cumberland Park Community Centre market stalls, you have loads of choice. Whether you're Christmas shopping or just buying a gift for someone special, colourful cards from Kate Hollister Photography, handmade jewellery from Wendy's Wearable Art, baby wear from ELO Baby Designs, or a beautiful scarf or pillow cover from Little Jingjo will fit the bill.
The Red Umbrella Market at the Cumberland Park Community Centre is not one of the weekly Sunday markets in Adelaide. You need to follow Red Umbrella Market on Facebook to find out when the next craft market will be held. Of course the market stall holders will change occasionally, but if you're looking for artisan goods and handmade gifts, then this could be the market for you.
The market owners are always on the lookout for interesting new stalls, so if you have some great savoury food or some fresh, interesting things to selln then get in touch with the organisers.
