Red Pepper Restaurant is exactly the type of place that locals love and Melburnians show off to friends when they visit. It is the familiar, comforting, and constant visits that wins restaurants repeat-customers in this 'food city', and Red Pepper is one such venue.

Wandering in from the street you'll feel like your in someones kitchen. For those of us that have been to house party's where it is a adventure to get a drink out of the fridge this may be seem a bad thing - but in Red Pepper's case it is fantastic. A visitor to Red Pepper shall quickly feel relaxed and at home. This said, perhaps because of this is it true there is often a line.

In spite of this - save for perhaps the busiest of Fridays and Saturday's - the wait is not so long to as too leave you longing, instead it often just builds anticipation. Alongside this, a somewhat eccentric quirk of the restaurant is that it does not offer table service. With this it is ideal to order at the counter - or if your understandably not yet sure what you want upon arrival - just seek to grab a menu from the counter as your shown to your table. At first, some may find this a tedious feature of the restaurant, but over time it becomes understandable given much of the crowd Red Pepper caters to is either in for a express-lunch or dinner.

Despite being geared too speedy service the food is one well worth savoring. The diversity of the menu is impressive with a solid number of curry's, naans and more on offer to mix and match.

Further to this, just like Gaylord Indian in Tattersalls Lane, Red Pepper has Hayward's beer. At upwards of 7% alcohol per bottle is it indeed a strong beer - and one much beloved by the local Australian-Indian community - but also remains quite hard to find. With this, any restaurant that has gone to trouble to get it on the menu is generally a pretty good bet for offering a quality experience.

Finally, a note on the hours should be offered: Red Pepper is open 7 days a week till late (Mon-Fri from 10am, and Sat-Sun from 12pm). This is important if you've started your day before sunrise and feel like an early lunch here is a place that shall serve a great one from 10am. In turn, when other restaurants may be closing on a week day night, Red Pepper is still cooking and remains a solid option.

Red Pepper Restaurant, whether a regular or first-timer, it is a great place for a lunch or dinner visit.
