Take a break from the city this weekend and head out to the Red Door Cafe for a leisurely lunch.
Located about one and a half hours west of Melbourne (28km past Geelong) in the cute little town of Inverleigh, this sweet cafe makes for a great stopover or a lovely destination.
The attention to detail invested in this family owned business is clear when you approach the pretty white exterior. Pass through the red door and you'll find a warm and inviting environment with artwork hanging from the exposed brick, leather armchairs circling the bay window and wooden chairs and tables. With its modern interior, this cafe wouldn't be out of place on a trendy Melbourne street, but there's also a rustic, old-world feel that reminds you you're in the country.
The cafe-style meals are very reasonably priced, at around the $8 to $10 mark, including beef pies, sausage rolls, soup and toasted sandwiches. There are also some lovely baked goods (the brownies are highly recommended!) Hot and cold drinks are available of course and the coffee is creamy and delicious. A lot of the produce used in the cooking is organic. There's also a nice range of local organic produce for sale.
Found this cafe after having to detour after an accident on the freeway. Stopped for lunch and will now make it a regular detour and stop on the way to the surf coast - adds only a few mins but for great result! Friendly staff, good coffee, decent prices and delicious food. Can't go wrong with that!
