Thai food is a big thing in Sydney. Funny that Pad Thai here tastes nothing like it does in Thailand. It tastes a whole lot better. Probably because westerners like their food with a touch more oil and a tad less vegetables. I've had enough Thai in my life to want to branch out for the ordinary options like fried rice. There are hundreds of Thai shops in our home town. Each pun better than the next. There's Thairiffic , Suit and Thai, The Thaitan, the list goes on. With names like that, it's easy to get distracted. When your eyes begin to clear, take a look at Red Coco Thai on Bondi Road.

Reasonable prices, incredible food and welcoming service. The little restaurant is easy to miss, unless you get a whiff of the kitchen as you walk by. All your Thai favourites are there. In terms of their best I'd say get the chicken wings to start. They are crispy, succulent wings served with sweet chilli sauce. For the main, I'd suggest two choices. The first is Deep-Fried Soft Shell Crab. Amazing. The second is Roast Duck Pad-see-ew. Incredible. The best thing about this place is the quantity. When you order duck, you get a lot of duck. Same with the crab. It's not one of those places where you have to schlep through the rice to find a bit of beef. If you order over thirty bucks you can get a free can of drink. They also have loyalty cards so be sure to grab one.

I've lived in Bondi over 20 years. I've seen a multitude of business comes through this particular location. There has been restaurants, Laundromats and more. Every time the business has failed. Why? The shop is in a location that doesn't get too much foot traffic for dinner. It's never an impromptu decision. It's something that people seek out. Something they keep coming back for. Something like Red Coco Thai.
