The is coming to Leighton Beach in Fremantle on Saturday 6 December 2014.



This free event is expected to draw huge crowds so pack your beach towels and bring the whole family along to beach which is the finish line for this exciting race.

The Red Bull Rottnest to Leighton Kiteboarding Race is Southern Hemisphere's longest open-ocean kiteboarding race. The kiteboarders will take off from Phillip Point in Rottnest Island in the late afternoon once the wind is up. Starting time is set for 2.30pm but may change depend on the winds on the day. Competitors will then race across the Indian Ocean and Gage Roads. The kiteboarders will race to the finish line at Leighton Beach in North Fremantle and are expected to arrive there in under 25 minutes from their take off time. Spectators can watch the race end at Leighton Beach.

The record time for this 19 kilometre channel crossing is 23 minutes and 50 seconds, was set by Queenslander Marvin Baumeister in 2013. Will this years skilled group of around 100 kiteboarders be able to break his record?

As well as the action in the skies, there will also be plenty of fun on the beach. Family activities such as a beach volleyball competition, water safety activities, freestyle kite demonstrations and Learn to Kite competitions will keep everyone entertained. While you are there, be sure to look out for the Red Bull Wigwams on the beach.

'Frankie' the Red Bull Events Vehicle will also be there to pump out the music to add to the beach party atmosphere.

**Please note that if the wind conditions on the day are not favourable, there is a reserve day scheduled for Sunday 7 December.
