This column came from my column about songs with the number Zero in the title, and is the second part of songs about nothing, after part one . This was because I had enough songs that were really good for two columns, and so we'll finish with recent songs about nothing.

Recent songs about nothing!

Now, recent songs tend to be from this century, but I started from 1990 because of the way the number of songs fell. So, this covers 1990 to 2023. I had a lot for this list, and my initial cull still left me too many for a reasonable length column, so some serious choices were made until I had the much more manageable 15 songs here.

Now, as I said last time, the normal rules apply, but they cover both columns as one – one version of each song, one song per artist, and I need to like the song. Also, the word nothing (or nothin') must be in the title.

With that in mind, here are recent songs about nothing!
'Nothing Compares 2 U' by Sinead O'Connor (1990)

This was the first song I thought of when it came to this topic. O'Connor's debut hit, written by Prince, showcases her emotive voice and is still considered a classic tune. Just a beautiful track.
'Nothing Else Matters' by Metallica (1991)

From the so-called Black Album, this was one of the many songs from that collection that took Metallica from popular for a heavy metal band to just popular, something they maintained all the way through to the release of St Anger. And this song is so good.
'Ain't Got Nothing If You Ain't Got Love' by Michael Bolton (1993)

Michael Bolton is an amazing singer, and yet is often derided for his 1990s physical appearance and the AOR songs he released. But nothing can take away from that magnificent voice, and even in a track like this, a lot more up-tempo that what general audiences associate with him, he still has the power.
'Nothin' New Under The Moon' by LeAnn Rimes (1998)

A country track, but more on the pop side of the genre, from one of the better-known modern female singers of country music. I think she went maybe too far pop after the album this comes from, but I still like this collection and this track is a good one.
'Absolutely Nothing's Changed' by Tina Turner (1999)

Maybe I am only including this because of Tina's recent passing , but it doesn't matter when the song is still a decent one. There is more of a dance feel about it, but, even this late into her career, she still had "it".
'Ain't Nothin' Like' by Brad Paisley (2003)

More country, and this from one of my favourite country artists. This is a fun track, the sort Paisley releases regularly, and just feels like it's designed to be sung in a live concert situation.
'Sort Of Dunno Nothin'' by Peter Denahy (2008)

This is something of an Australian country novelty song that I got as a digital download "back in the day" after seeing the music video. The way kids talk has not changed since I was a teenager, and I still see it today. Fun track.
'Nothing To Do With Love' by Halestorm (2009)

I get another chance to highlight a Lzzy Hale and co song, so I will. They are rock for the modern age, with Hale's striking voice at the forefront of everything. This is an album cut, but I really like it. Rock music doesn't trouble the charts anymore, but I can still enjoy it.
'Without You I'm Nothing' by Ace Frehley (2018)

From the Spaceman album , this was one of my favourites from that collection, with an incredible guitar solo. And, for the record, it was co-written by his former Kiss band-mate Gene Simmons.
'All Or Nothing' by Bryan Adams (2019)

In my review of Shine A Light , I mentioned this was one of my favourite tracks on that collection, with some really positive lyrics, and I still feel that way. It's been a while since I listened to it, and it brought a smile to my face returning to it.
'When Nothing's Going Right' by Stray Cats (2019)

I also called this song one of the better ones when I reviewed the 40 album , with one of those wonderful bits of silly word-play in the lyrics. So glad to see Stray Cats back!
'Nothing At All' by Deep Purple (2020)

And, again, another favourite track, as I said in my review of Whoosh! . I really seemed to like these recent songs about Nothing! This has some wonderful guitar playing throughout, and is a song that I just like for a reason I can't really explain.
'Nothing But Wild' by Amy Sheppard (2022)

And we stick with albums I've reviewed, and the poppiest track from the Nothing But Wild EP , the one which opens the collection, and which is a fun little track from a great collection.
'I Don't Wanna Do Nothing Forever' by The Smith Street Band (2022)

Because of things going on in my life, I didn't get a chance to review this album that I received near the end of 2022, and I should have because it is such a good album. This is one of many great tracks on the collection, and is interesting lyrically as well.
'Nothing At All' by Foo Fighters (2023)

From a brand new album, one which I hope to be covering in a multi-album review soon-ish, and the album is a really good one, one of the Foo Fighter's better collections, written on the back of tragedy. This song rocks and is a fine way to finish this column.
So, that finishes our fifteen songs since 1990 about nothing. Something about nothing. There – I've stopped confusing myself. Another good spread of musical styles and a wide range of years means, again, I hope there is something (not nothing) here for everyone.

I hope you enjoyed this second part of this series of songs.
