The Melbourne Cricket Ground (better known as the MCG) is the largest venue in Melbourne. It hosts football matches and cricket games. If you haven't attended a game at the MCG, you must treat yourself and see how great it is.
My family and I enjoy coming to the MCG to watch a football match because the atmosphere makes it really exciting as you hear the roar of the crowd. You can see the game perfectly from any spot you are sitting at, plus they have big screens so you can see the action up close.
The G is home to many AFL teams such as Melbourne Demons. Hawthorn, Collingwood, Carlton and Richmond. If you barrack for any of these teams, think about buying a ticket to their next game before the football season finishes. I have attended a few Collingwood games here and the buzz of the supporters makes it a fun experience and I love cheering for my team as I watch them live.
You will not go hungry at the G, they have tons of food stalls available on every level and even outside to make sure you are fueled up for the game. Hot pies, chips, burgers, pizzas, nuggets, souvlakis, sandwiches, sushi, Red Rooster and more are on offer. The general "Food Store" outlets are the cheapest I have noticed as they have lowered the prices of most of the food. Red Rooster can be found on level one but only has limited options available.
Staff at the G are very nice and customer service oriented. I can always ask any of them for directions or assistance and they will be glad to help. I had a lovely retail employee help my brother and I find the way back to what aisle we needed to go to for our seats as we became disoriented on level three one afternoon. I was very impressed with this service, especially since he was meant to be working in the bar and not assisting customers to their seats.
The absolute best time to go to the MCG is on Grand Final Day. It is the day that the two best teams in the AFL go head to head. It is a jam-packed day full of mixed emotions. However, you have to be really fast in getting tickets because they sell out quick.
Overall I think the MCG is an awesome place to watch a game of sport, they also have other random events throughout the year and you can also visit the museum there too.
