The buzz surrounding the Royal visit of William, Kate and Baby George may have abated, but the monarchist vibe remains with many Australians having fallen in love once more with the Royal Family.

The republicans have gone quiet and, frankly, any changes in that direction are a long way off. So, in the wake of William and our renewed enthusiasm for Cool Britannia, what can we do to leverage our links with the Royal Family and become a Cooler Commonwealth?

[BREAK]How about the Governor General, the Queen's representative in the Commonwealth? Is this something that could be offered to a member of the Royal Family. The questions are, who and what do we have to draw them Down Under?

Whilst William has poise and personality, a stint Down Under is unlikely to be part of the grooming for the future King. He's got his work cut out for him preparing for the big job. We need someone who has a bit less rigidity, pressure and more of a happy-go-lucky nature and someone who will wholeheartedly embrace the Australian culture. Someone who's not afraid to make a faux-pas, loves the outdoors and can be irreverent with a beer in his hand.

His Royal Highness, Prince Henry Charles Albert David of Wales (aka Harry) has got to be the perfect contender with his royal credentials and international outlook. Not only would he be good for Australia, we'd be good for him. Whilst he'd be stationed in Canberra, Sydney's close by and has plenty of activities for him to enjoy during the weekends and whenever he's not on official duty. Here are 10 starters to keep him busy on his days off:

1. Harry loves the outdoors and is an avid sportsman, enjoying rugby, skiing and horseback riding. Australia can offer those and more, with amazing water activities that will have him wet 'n' wild . Speaking of wet 'n' wild, he may even get to recreate his father's "kiss on Cottesloe Beach" that captured the world's attention during Charles' visit in 1979!

[BREAK]2. Some readers may be surprised to learn that Harry is also interested in botany and flowers. We have an abundance of gardens, including the Royal Botanical Gardens , where he can learn about our native flora.

3. Harry has an outgoing, witty personality – referring to himself as a bit of a court jester - which will endear him to Australians. This larrikin could liven up Admiralty House with humorous antics and he could get some tips from home-grown comedians here .

4. The Prince is said to be a "wicked mimic" of his family and friends. Our politicians will provide him with plenty of material to perfect those skills. He could practice at a variety of places in Sydney, including the Comedy Store and join the list of renowned comedians who have performed there.

5. During his 2013 visit to Australia, Harry was touted as "the most desirable ginger in the cosmos" by the Australian newspaper. Aussie women have a soft spot for red-heads and he could have his pick of the most beautiful girls in the world. All he needs to do is learn a little of what Aussie girls are looking for.

6. Harry's been known to be a bit forgetful, especially when the press is lurking. He's been told to remember that he's being watched all the time and to behave accordingly. Harry could learn a lot from Australian men on tips for remembering .

7. The Prince has referred to himself as being "never shy in coming forward" but we all know how hard it is to meet people when you move to a new place. Thankfully, we have some great networking opportunities in Sydney, including the Newcomers Network where he could meet some new people.

8. In 2010, Harry topped GQ magazine's 'Cool List' beating Twilight star Robert Pattinson and Barack Obama. He's got charisma and influence – important traits for the Governor General. Whilst he's unlikely to need help in the socialising department, it doesn't hurt to know where the man about town should hang out .

9. His time in the military has proven him to be a top leader and team player. Perhaps he could lend his name and reputation to the cadets which is a great way for kids who enjoy those sorts of activities to learn the skills they need to succeed in the world.

10. Whilst Australia has been ranked at the top of the 2012 World Giving Index, 2013 data shows that Australians have started to give less to charity. Harry is well known for his support of charities, including those for the sick and homeless. Imagine how much it would mean to local charities to have Harry promoting and supporting their work. It would be a great boost to our collective social conscience and sense of community.

[BREAK]These are just a few of the things we can offer Harry to keep him busy on his weekends and when he's freed up from official duty. What more could he ask for?

So, come on Tony Abbott. Harry turns 30 this year and what better present than to put out the welcome mat and offer him the next term of Governor General of the Commonwealth of Australia.

We could do with a charming larrikin keeping politicians in their place and the polls would love you for it.
