Tasmania is not a big state but it is a beautiful one. A unique way to experience all its corners is by travelling in a campervan. Here's a few reasons why you should embrace this unique experience.

1. Tasmania embraces the motorhome culture.

The motorhome culture there is very popular with caravan parks in all major cities as well as small, regional towns.

Whilst driving from place to place, you might see other motorhomes and we found their drivers would often give us a wave as they drove past.

2. It has everything you need.

We had a small campervan, basically a ute where they had replaced the tray with a home.

It had a sink, gas oven, fridge, microwave, wardrobe, bed, heater and even a TV. Not to mention every nook and cranny was utilised to its full extent as storage space.

3. You don't need to worry about hotel accommodation.

You need to book campsites but it's so much more free and laidback. Each night can be spent in a different location without worrying about packing and forgetting things, because all your belongings are in your mobile home!

4. There are so many places to see.

Although it's small, there are so many beautiful places to see in all areas of the state. We were there for 9-10 days and still had to cut out some places we wanted to go such as Bay of Fires.

On the other hand as we had our own vehicle, we managed some spontaneous trips too, from the historic town of Richmond to the famous, quirky gallery of Hobart - MONA.

5. The drive itself is beautiful.

The drive to Strahan from Mount Field National Park may have been over 200 kilometres but to drive through the World Heritage Area was amazing.

6. The people there are so friendly and helpful.

On our first drive to a supermarket, someone walking by indicating we were parked too much to one side. When we first filled up petrol, someone also came out from the store to help us as we had not filled up our campervan before.

Small things like that really contribute to your trip and make it that much more enjoyable.

7. The lack of stores forces you to be more independent.

You'll find some people will complain about the lack of stores in towns or how early everything closes. With a campervan, all you need is to stock up on groceries in your motorhome and you won't need to worry.

It also helped us spend less money.

8. The food is local, fresh and delicious.

When you do go out to eat, you can't resist that Tasmanian seafood. Delicious oysters everywhere at reasonable prices.

We even had a lobster for dinner in our motorhome just to spoil ourselves for Christmas and it was excellent!

9. You realise all the things you don't need.

The compact nature of the motorhome shows that you can live without a plethora of possessions. We only packed what we needed, which was mainly clothes for the chillier Tasmanian weather.

But even then we still had leftover storage space yet still didn't feel like the campervan was missing much. We even had a mini heater to battle those chilly nights.

10. It will be a tale to tell.

Not many people, or at least younger people, will tell you they've travelled around a state or Australia in a motorhome. We noticed campsites were often full of retired couples enjoying their free lives or tourists.

I think our Tasmanian experience was enhanced a lot more by this unique experience, and we were so excited to return home to tell everyone about it!
