Lived in Sydney for three years, now back in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia!

Many enjoy spending their sunny weekends at the ever popular weekend market at The Rocks. Some are frequent visitors while others visit once in a blue moon or for the first time. One is able to view and purchase from a wide range of artwork - a majority of it handmade by the locals. Looking for a unique piece of Sydney as a present or a souvenir? The Rocks market is the place for you, in my opinion.
For those wanting a truly unique piece of Australia, literally a part of Australia, the stall run by Bush Art Australia is the place for them. Known as Real Leaf Jewellery or Nature's Jewellery, this stall offers visitors a piece of Australia in the form of a leaf or gum nut unique to Australia. It can be found among the stalls in the main canopy of the market.
A piece of leaf or gum nut that one could just pick from a tree native to Australia is being sold at The Rocks. The uniqueness to it? They are plated in gold or rhodium! A leaf or gum nut that is hand-picked is then skeletonised, leaving just the veins, before it is coated in gold or rhodium. The skeletonising of the leaf emphasises the veins of the leaf, making it a beautiful and unique feature of the artwork. A one of a kind memorabilia as no one leaf or gum nut is the same. A delicate and intricate piece of nature's work preserved for good.
An example of the leaves before coating and the end products
While one eyes the leaves and treats them with caution - as one does with intricate and delicate artwork - the stall owner picks one up and raps it on the wooden table. The wincing visitor is then showed the undamaged leaf while the table probably suffers from a dent - or many similar dents from leaves being rapped on it. Yes, it is a one-of-a-kind, low cost, probably near indestructible (due to being hardened by three metals before being coated with a high quality 22-carat gold or rhodium) piece of Australia for visitors to take back as souvenirs or to give as gifts on any occasion. Leaves and gum nuts can be found in the form of pendants, earrings and brooches at this stall. Simple yet elegant and classy - these artfully preserved pieces of nature do not tarnish and have a high endurance.
