Easter is on the horizon. With many people making plans for holidays, family gatherings and that visit from the Easter bunny. Easter eggs are beginning to line the supermarket shelves, along with hot cross buns. There are many Easter egg traditions throughout the world, across so many cultures decorating and collecting Easter eggs is celebrated.

As we are now in the time of Lent it is also a time for reflection. The Easter story is usually totally absent from any connection with Easter eggs on sale. However this year a pilot program is about to change that. has just been launched in Adelaide and Melbourne. This Easter egg connects chocolate with the Easter message of hope.

is 150g, and includes an Easter storybook with a 3ft Happy Easter Banner, a high quality Fairtrade milk chocolate egg (125g) and a pack of Fairtrade milk chocolate Chunky Buttons (25g). On the box there are 3 crosses, along with Mark's resurrection scripture in the lid. All net profits from sales of the Real Easter Egg will go directly to project work in third world countries.

is not in the shops. As it is a pilot year orders can only come from churches, schools and individuals. If you order 24 eggs then there is free delivery to a single drop-off address. Each Real Easter Egg costs $12 and comes in cases of 6. You can also register and download posters and sign-up forms here Last orders for the Real Easter Eggs to be placed by March 13th, 2015.

How did the Real Easter Egg story begin?
In 2010 someone gave David Marshall an Easter egg. On the side of the box it said: "Easter is the festival of chocolate and loveliness". The line made him laugh and reflect that 'there is a bit more to Easter than that'. He began to design his own Easter egg, deciding it would be Fairtrade, tell the Easter story and make real the Easter themes of hope and new life, plus support charitable projects. It would be called .

was launched in 2010 in the UK and out of the 80 million eggs sold that year was the only one with a copy of the Easter story in the box, which was Fairtrade and donated to charity. Four years on, is still the only one to do this. By Easter 2015 more than a million Real Easter Eggs will have been bought in the UK. More than $256,000 has already been donated to charity.

There are very limited numbers available in Adelaide, so register and order as soon as possible. This would make an extra special find for a little one at Easter. Further info also available here
