I'm a mother of four with two coeliac children. I'm always on the lookout for great gluten-free spots around Brisbane and feature gluten-free cooking in my blog: coeliacfamily.blogspot.com.au
I'm also a muso and enjoy live music around town.
Kids love horses, but often city kids don't get a chance to give riding a try, or even to get close to a horse. The Ready Set Trot program is a fantastic way to introduce your child to horses and the skills of riding in a safe environment.
The Linbrook Riding Centre is just over fifty minutes drive from Brisbane City, located at Veresdale near Beaudesert. The course runs for eight weeks and in that time children receive instruction in fun group games and activities which teach horse safety, basic horse skills and how to care for horses. Accredited coaches teach correct riding techniques, how to prepare the horse for riding and all there is to know about horse features and the different paces at which the horse can travel.
The course is suitable for five to twelve year olds, and is a great way to get children involved in a fun outdoor activity and to meet new friends. No previous experience with horses is necessary. Participants are provided with a horse riders kit, which includes a Ready Set Trot bag, helmet cover, drink bottle, workbook, pen, rosette and sticker. Lessons take place on Sunday afternoons and run for three hours.
Experienced riders are also catered for at Linbrook, with lessons available in all aspects of riding, including competition coaching. You can use the stable's equipment and horses, or provide your own.
The entire cost of the Ready Set Trot course is $350, which includes all riding equipment, use of the horses, course pack and tuition. You can register for a course by visiting the Ready Set Trot Website. You can also read more about the program, meet the trainers and see pictures of the horses. There is even a kids section on the website where they can play games, print out activities and sign up for the Gee Gee Newsletter.
This program is a wonderful way to begin your child's life long love affair with horses, get them off the couch and make new friends in a safe and educational environment. There are courses starting these holidays.
What a Fantastic opportunity ! Gets the kids away from all the electronic devices and into the great outdoors. They will realize that other species on this planet have personalities and feelings too, so they need to be respected and cherished. Terrific physical exercise, while enjoying the camaraderie with fellow riders. And an Awesome confidence booster. Wish I was a kid again.
