Heavenly Milk Cake

Razz Bistro and Bar is a new café located in the venue that was last known as Shuga. It's a large restaurant with an outdoor area on a service lane just off Plenty Road. We went midweek and were the first evening diners. We were welcomed heartily. Perhaps the staff are so friendly because they have only been there a couple of months and they are keen to accommodate their customers.

Tonight was a quiet night, but the waitress told me they are quite busy on the weekends. This is not surprisingly given the generous serving sizes and quick, friendly service. As usual, my daughter ordered hot chips and we wondered if, given that they were only five dollars, they would be enough for her meal. Actually, she didn't finish the bowl.

A BIG bowl of chips for $5

I ordered eggplant chips (just $10), which I had had there with the previous owner. They looked nothing like the last serve I had bought there. These were presented beautifully with garlic aioli, flakes of chili, shallots and lemon. My daughter commented that even though she didn't like eggplant she could have eaten all of my eggplant chips and further, quite remarkably, loved them more than her own potato chips. That's a first!

I thought I had been around long enough to have tasted all possible deserts. God knows I've put in a good effort! We were lucky enough to try milk cake, which I may have overlooked on the menu because of the title. This is a stunning looking cake which is soaked in a delicious sweet milky syrup and topped with lime cream, hazelnuts, pistachios with a hint of mint and decorated with fairy floss. It looks great and tastes even better (if that's possible). It would be worth going just for the cake. It will surprise you. We have sworn to go back for more.

Razz Bistro & Bar is a family owned business that desires to provide an experience like no other. Razz is the head chef with years of varied experience. He aims to take locally sourced produce and make it into a world-class dish and to cater for most dietary requirements.

If you're in the area, you must drop in and treat yourself to one or two of the very affordable dishes. Great food, great prices, and great service -what more could you ask for?
