It's the late 1920s in Sydney, and organised crime is running rife across the city with a war brewing between the Queens of the Underworld. The women at the helm are Kate Leigh, who has made her empire through the illegal selling of booze and Tilly Devine, a former prostitute who is now a madame and running a string of brothels. The weapon of choice is the razor blade, which gang members use to murder and disfigure their victims, including sex workers who get caught up in the violence. As a result, NSW Police Force recruit Australia's first policewoman, Lillian Armfield, to help with getting women off the streets and out of danger.

Razor Gang Wars is a true Australian crime tale told in the 200-year-old crypt under St James' Church, which provides a fitting backdrop and unique experience. The performance starts outside the church, before the audience is guided inside where the play continues at various locations in the crypt. With a 60-minute running time, there is only so much of the story which can be covered and therefore narration is used in between scenes to fill the gaps. Due to the size of the venue and the audience, up to 30 people, not everyone is able to have a clear view of the action in every scene. However, such close proximity brings another dimension to the dramatic performances and leaves the cast with no room for error. Razor Gang Wars is a one-of-a-kind, not to be missed theatrical experience about the dark past of Sydney's criminal underworld.
