Rathlogan Grove

Published March 9th 2011

You don't need to travel all the way to Greece to tour an olive grove or purchase fresh olive oil – just get in your car and head south towards the Scenic Rim.

Rathlogan Grove (4 Upper Logan Road, Rathdowney) is an olive grove located at the base of Mt Barney and Mt Maroon, about 96 kilometres south of Brisbane. The grove contains more than 1000 olive trees that are harvested and pressed onsite to become Rathlogan Gold extra virgin olive oil.

Olive oil is cholesterol free and a good source of anti-oxidants. It is also a high quality oil that adds flavour to cooking. To learn more about olive farming and their bi-products, tourists can join the owners of Rathlogan Grove on a tour of the property.

The experience includes a guided tour of the crops and processing area and an hour long information session and audiovisual display regarding growing and processing olives. This is followed by a three course lunch; for small groups, an additional morning tea can be arranged. The cost of the tour is $20 per person. Tour groups are welcome but groups of more than twenty must phone ahead.

The Rathlogan Grove retail store sells bottles and refills of olive oil, table olives and herb mixes like macadamia and hazel nut and bush spice.

Take a trek through the olive groves and you'll feel like you're in the Mediterranean. Rathlogan Grove is a quirky day trip and an opportunity to purchase fresh olive oil.
