There is only one way to describe the vicinity in which the Rare Steakhouse resides. If the Melbourne CBD was a body, the Rare Steakhouse would be situated on its face, not that there's a backside end of this city. I'm speaking as one who has lived here my whole life and loved it; anyone critical of this part of Victoria would say I should get out more.
As the name probably suggests, the Rare Steakhouse offers patrons a choice of rare porterhouse or eyefillet, in addition to the other preparation options of well done and charred. In fact, there's an incredible variety of all your favourite red meats. This restaurant is exceptionally popular with the swarming tides of hungry workers that pass through the streets at lunchtime, looking for a scrumptious bite to eat.
Rare Steakhouse gives you the option of making a reservation online, which is the perfect way to secure your place during the lunchtime rush. But try to be as inconspicuous as possible about using the internet at work for this activity. After all, you want your steak fired, not you.
Eating at Rare on Saturday night was a complete debacle.
Every dish placed before my lady friend and I was completely wrong.
We placed an order for:
Stuffed mushrooms with herb butter
a 200 gram eye fillet cooked medium with mushroom sauce (the ladies order)
a 300 gram eye fillet cooked blue with green pepper sauce (my order)
delivered to our table we got:
Stuffed mushrooms with GARLIC butter
a 200 gram Eye fillet cooked RARE with GARLIC sauce (for the lady)
a '200' gram Eye fillet cooked blue with MUSHROOM sauce.
Every dish placed before us was wrong! ... and the sauces were gluey and rather unpalatable. Needless to say we will not be going back.
Avoid this one like leprosy unless you're in the mood for disappointment and an overwhelming sense that people don't really listen.
