Rare Plant Gardeners share Rare Tips at Garden Show
Ferny Creek Horticultural Rare Plant Garden Show - Photo Mary A McMillan
This is an extraordinary garden show where rare plant breeders come together and show off their uniquely special stock. These breeds you will not find at your standard nurseries. This is your chance to get in quick before they sell out. And you get to purchase them at "direct from the supplier" prices.
Last time I was at this event, I purchased some stunning Bearded Irises that I had never seen before, in deep black and purples, and they have burst alive over the spring season and are about to bloom again, much to my delight.
This is a yearly treat for me and it should be for you. The year before, I found hibiscus plants with flowers the size of dinner plates. I choose 1 red and 1 pink. And even with my concerns that Melbourne was not warm enough, after three years, they are still popping up stunning flowers every spring.
There will also be everything you need to garden with, including mod con garden tools. There will be a Botanical Artist available to chat. And the wood turners will be spinning their stuff. One year I came home with the most stunning wooden handmade bowl. It is in pride of place in the foyer of my home.
Also there will be seed sales, bulb sales, book sales and much, much more.
Guided garden walks are held regularly and they will get you back just in time for refreshments, light lunches, or a sizzled sausage.
Free on-site parking makes it easy to escape the city for a lovely drive through the beautiful hills of Melbourne. And even if it is a bit warm, you are strolling under stunning ancient trees which shade you as you enjoy this wonderful event.
Bus tours are welcome by arrangement at 9755 2135.
Now the morning glory of the day is you only have to hit the piggy bank for gold coins, as entry is only $5.00 and kids under 14 are FREE.
Don't miss out on your chance to see the rare and beautiful all in one place at this historical garden. This event is hosted by the Ferny Creek Horticultural Society who have maintaining this stunning place since 1932. So the garden tours are a must for both the scenery and historical facts.
Put these dates in the diary, Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 March 2016 10 am to 4 pm
