November seems to be a month of art appreciation in Singapore. For the first time, renowned vintage poster dealer, Picture This Gallery, based in Hong Kong will present its 'The Art of the Poster' alongside other top exhibitions on the island. The gallery is a leading dealer in original vintage posters and the only Asian based member of the prestigious International Vintage Poster Dealers' Association.
Held at the ION Art Gallery from 24 November to 1 December, this exhibition will showcase works from Picture This Gallery's collection of rare original vintage posters. You can feast your eyes on posters for movies, entertainment, travel, tourism, and food and beverage. These promotional advertisements offer an insight into the trends and popular culture of the times.
Many of the posters on show are from leading designers from the late 19th century like Henri Toulouse-Lautrec and Jules Cheret, as well as the very best of the 20th century poster artists. Some legends include Adolphe Cassandre, Leonetto Cappiello, Jean d'Ylen, Paul Colin, Bernard Villemot, Raymond Savignac, Lucien Boucher and Hervé Morvin.
Gallery Director Christopher Bailey will be hosting guided tours and talks on the historical overview of vintage posters and artistic trends at 3pm on 27 November and 11am on 29 November. Those interested in collecting and investing in vintage posters can attend a talk at 7pm on 27 November and 3pm on 29 November.
