On the 22nd of February, 2014, one of the worlds biggest hip-hop artists performed live at ANZ Stadium. Slim Shady, Marshall Mathers or Eminem, he goes by many different names around the globe. The last time he was here he sold out every single seat of his victorious stadium tour. I had the privilege of seeing him live this year at Rapture, where he again sold out every single seat at ANZ Stadium. He was also accompanied by four other successful artists who opened for him. They go by the names of Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole, 360 and Action Bronson.
This was without a doubt one of the best experiences of my life and I recommend that the next time he tours around Australia others should buy a ticket to his show. He performed the captivating and controversial hits that made him and his career, as well as some new material from his latest album, Marshall Mathers LP 2. The atmosphere was just incredible, 80 000 fans came to support one of their favourite artists of all time. After waiting in some extremely long lines, I finally got to purchase some merchandise as shown in the image below.
All the opening artists had finished their performances, and it was time for Eminem to take the stage and put on a show that people would never forget. The lights around the stadium dimmed and the crowd began to scream as they knew he was coming. Everyone was on their feet including myself. In his half-mast baggy shorts and hoodie, he began performing his biggest hits of all time such as The Way I Am, My Name Is and The Real Slim Shady. These songs got the crowd hyped up and begging for more. My hands were up in the air the whole night fist pumping to the lyrical genius' music.
Eminem surprised us all when he brought Ryan Montgomery out on stage, who is better known as Royce da 5'9. He toured around Australia with Eminem two years ago at the Bad Meets Evil concert. Together they performed two huge hits, Fastlane and Lighters. Both these songs are inspiring and I recommend that if anyone hasn't listened to them, they do as they portray deep meaning.
The night was coming to an end, which was pretty sad because I did not want to leave. He told us all to raise our hands for the finale of Not Afraid, by far his biggest hit in Australia. The song was dedicated to anyone that had been touched by the curse of addiction. After he finished he thanked everyone for attending and said he'd definitely come back to Australia.
People started leaving but others kept chanting, "ENCORE!, ENCORE!, ENCORE!" Within a matter of seconds music blasted out of nowhere and Eminem ran out on stage to do an encore. He performed Lose Yourself, the song that got his career started. I went crazy because that was my all time favourite song of his. Overall the day/night was amazing and it was a great weekend that I won't ever be forgetting.
