On Saturday the 9th and Sunday the 10th of July 2022, you are invited to join volunteer ranger and Friends of Granite Island member Roslyn for a walk around
Granite Island Recreation Park . The hour-long walk will depart from the big fig tree near the causeway at 2pm. Following the Kaiki Walk trail, you will learn about the island and its local birdlife as well as take in dramatic and eye-catching views of Encounter Bay and the Bluff.
Southern Right Whales can often be seen in winter and hopefully, you'll be able to spot a couple of them. They are mainly black in colour with visible and unique white patterns on their heads. There are also interpretive signs along the trail if you wish to discover more about the geology and history of the island. Granite boulders such as the Umbrella Rock is worth exploring.
There is no cost to participate in the walk, however, do be mindful that there are steps and inclines along the trail. Bookings are essential and can be made online via their
Eventbrite website. Be quick to book if you're interested as spots tend to fill up fast. Granite Island Recreation Park is approximately 650 metres off the coast of Victor Harbor, accessible by walking over a newly constructed causeway.
