It's Saturday morning. I've been looking forward to sleeping in all week. Alas, I find myself wide awake at 6am, I'm still in automatic. I get up, make a cup of tea, then curse as I realise it's not a normal work day, I could've slept in. I walk back to my bedroom and sneak a peek at hubby in peaceful slumber. It's the weekend, I could just sleep in all day, but something tells me it'll go to fast and feel like a waste. It's time to get up, get out and do something!

Have you ever been like this? Sure, most weekends you might already have plans made up in advance, but on the off chance like this, what do you do on a weekend that you haven't already planned? Here's some ideas of 'themed' weekends:

[SECTION]The "Me-Time" Detox Weekend[/SECTION]
You've probably heard of these types of weekends, it's a weekend dedicated to you.

Pamper yourself, treat yourself to a DIY foot spa, start day one off with a fresh juice and drink only herbal teas throughout the day.

But this detox isn't just internal, it's digital! That's right, turn off the tv, or better yet leave it unplugged, pick up that book you've been dying to read but never had 'enough time' to do so, and relax!

You don't have to take the whole weekend off from life if you feel that would cause you too much anxiety, remember it only takes a few minutes of conscious relaxation a day to recharge and reboot – if you give yourself just a few hours over a free weekend you'll find yourself going back to work on Monday with a renewed mindset and more vigour since you allowed yourself to rest and detox.

[SECTION]The Jump Start Weekend[/SECTION]
It's time to clear out the clutter you've been putting off. Projects you've been procrastinating on? Finish them. Or at least try to.

I love weekends like this, there's such an accomplished feeling at the end of it and it makes you think how much you can get done in a weekend when you put your mind to it.

Similar to the detox weekend, you don't have to spend the whole weekend, in my household we do 'project Sundays' once a month – just one day a month dedicated to getting something done on the to-do list that keeps getting put last and carried over to the next week's to-do list.

You know what I'm talking about – fixing that light bulb in the study, clearing out the garage, giving things you don't use or need to goodwill like St Vinnies, or for those things that hang long passed their due date – chuck em! This weekend like the detox weekend, gives you a fresh new start and the positive feelings that come with new beginnings.

[SECTION]The Spontaneous Weekend[/SECTION]
This weekend is all about adventure and surprising yourself. As it's so aptly called, the spontaneous weekend is something different and unexpected. Whether with your partner, a group of friends or family members – pick a place you've never been to and go there!

Especially in a country like Oz, you never realise just how much you haven't seen.

Be a tourist for a day or two. So many people have been out of the country but haven't even seen much of their own.

I absoutely adore weekends like these, it renews our sense of play and fun – and doing with your loved ones only gives another experience you can treasure both together. It doesn't have to be a grand outing, it can be to that park in the next suburb you've never been too. You can take photos as if you really were tourists. Even better, challenge your companions to choose the next place, you can do a whole route where you choose one destination, and the others pick another (without telling eachother) that way every feels truly spontaneous.
