Random Acts of Kindness – A Route to Real Happiness

The Dalai Lama is famous for his saying 'Be kind wherever possible. It is always possible'.

The act of kindness, however small, is often cited as essentially linked to real happiness. This is as true for the giver as the receiver. Thankfully there are a host of ways to give (beyond money). These ideas are centred on giving time, energy, being productive and creative. So get started.

Join a #8206 ;">volunteer group. If you are not sure about which one inquire at your local council for ideas.

Create a group of people interested in your same social justice passion and be creative about what you could do.

Start care packages with donated and home created goods.

Leave gifts or notes of appreciation for loved ones, people you haven't seen for a while or old teachers/mentors. They can be anonymous. There's no need to be acknowledged.

Ask friends to donate to a good cause instead of purchasing presents.

If people are friendly or give good service, tell them or their superiors.

Pay for someone else when they don't expect it. For example, for the next person in a drive through restaurant, fill a parking meter, place a coin in a shopping trolley.

Do some guerrilla gardening in a public place.

Cook a meal or offer a seat to someone who is sick, down or unable to.

Offer your expertise freely.

Don't throw away anything someone else could use. For example, donate books to schools, magazines to doctor's surgeries, clothes, toys to playgroups, jumpers and blankets to homeless organisations, soft toys to emergency services.

Look for ways to help the elderly or sick like bringing in their bins, junk mail, walking their dog or pulling out weeds.

Maybe the most significant, selfless random act of kindness is [LINK=http://www.fosterparenting.org.au
]fostering[/LINK], giving blood , hair to cancer sufferers or an #8206 ;">organ . Your legacy will truly live on for someone who really needs it.

Remember 'Happiness is not something ready made. It comes from your own actions.' Dalai Lama.

Actions mean more than words. There are so many ways we can be generous, thoughtful and live happily. I'm sure you can add to these simple ideas that can lead to happiness. Be happy trying!
