When dining with children, one of the hardest things to do is to keep them occupied while you wait for the food to arrive. Have no fear, at Ramon's at Willow Pond on Nicholson Road in Canning Vale, there is a bounty of things for kids to do that will keep them all occupied and all the adults relaxed.
Admire the Gardens
The Japanese garden is one of the things that Ramon's is famous for. Many a wedding has been held at this venue against the stunning backdrop of the beautifully landscaped and well-manicured gardens. The garden features weeping willows, water lilies, irises, roses and many more.
Make sure you also take the time to look at the interesting stone garden at the entrance. The stone garden contains 15 rocks, all so carefully placed that only a maximum of 14 rocks can ever be seen at any one time no matter which angle you look at it from. The kids will enjoy testing their skill and counting the rocks from different angles to see if they can see all 15 at once.
Martial Artist Ramon Lawrence has collected a plethora of trophies, medals and awards for his martial arts skills. All and more are on display at the entrance of Willow Pond. Kids can see all his achievements as well as old swords, kimonos and even samurai costumes.
The pond at Willow Pond is large, and it contains some huge koi. These koi are always hungry and for $1 you can buy some fish food and let the kids feed the hordes of fish. The fish seem to be trained to come up towards the edge of the pond as soon as they seen a human near, so if you have fish food with you, there are guaranteed to be takers. If you have very small children they will need to be well supervised around the pond.
A bush track runs through the gardens at Willow Ponds. The kids will enjoy following the track as it runs through the bushes and over bridges. The track will lead you to gazebos, fountains, around the lake and back to the restaurant again.
A metallic pyramid stands on the grounds at Ramon's. The pyramid is used for vibration therapy and not usually open to the public. But if you ask nicely the staff can unlock it so you can have sneak peek inside.
The outdoor chess set is the perfect way to kill some time while waiting for your meal. Using enlarged chess pieces on a checkerboard paved section of the garden, kids will have to carry the pieces with both hands to their chosen spot. A challenging game for the kids to play together.
The kid's meals at Ramon's are definitely worth it. For only $12 or $14, kids are given the choice of a range of main meals and a bowl of ice-cream for dessert. If you come on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights, kids can even eat free when an adult main meal is purchased. Ramon's also offer a Children's High Tea for $15 a head which would be perfect for birthday parties.
