When old books become tatted and torn with pages lost or loose and no longer readable, then it's time to turn the wheel back to the past. What to do with all those loose pages, all those unwanted books? Easy. Make some Christmas Decorations. Old fashioned crafts and ideas have made a full circle and become new again.

In recent times there has been a huge response to the Buy Nothing New movement, and recycling has become the buzz word. There's nothing quite like the satisfaction of making something out of nothing! So hunt out your old books that are no longer practical and recycle!

At Rainy Day Books, the new window display is packed with paper decorations with a special emphasis on Christmas, from chains to stars, from little birds to snowflakes, from hearts to small Christmas trees. All made from the pages from old books!

The books used were Reader's Digest condensed books with old yellowed pages and some sheet music that was also badly damaged so no useful books were harmed in the making of this window display.

Christmas Tree

The centre attraction in the Rainy Day Books window is an astounding tree is made from a 1.2 metre cone base of chicken wire with over 3 thousand circles of paper inserted into all the holes.

Call in at the shop and ask Meryll to show you how to do these paper Christmas decorations. She will give you some templates - all that you will need to get going with your own paper Christmas decorations.
