When we went camping up at Cape Tribulation, we came across a lot of popular, overcrowded tourist spots such as Lync Haven. We weren't too keen on being around all the noise and bustle so we kept going until we came across the quaint Rainforest Village .

Sporting a petrol and service station, Rainforest Village provides well maintained grassy grounds which can accommodate both tents and caravans. There are cheap powered sites available, most with a tap to supply clean, fresh water. The staff members were friendly and helpful. In fact, if you are late getting to Cape Trib and everything is shut – a large sign cordially invites you to find a site and 'see us in the morning'.

This is one campground where you don't need to pack the kitchen sink to go camping. There is an extremely large and spacious outdoor camp kitchen behind the service station. Guests are allowed to use the fridge/freezer to store their food in. There are also gas BBQ grills for cooking, sinks for washing up, tables and chairs. If you've forgotten something, chances are you'll find it at the shop.

The shower and toilet block were clean and we were surprised at how roomy the showers were. Just don't forget your soap! Also located in the shower block is the laundromat which has a washer and dryer.

Overall, Rainforest Village is a pleasant camping spot, an excellent home base for spending a few days exploring Cape Tribulation properly. If you're camping with children and are looking forward to sitting around quietly with a couple of beers, you're probably out of luck.

There isn't much for children to do once the initial exploration of the grounds has been done. Make sure they are aware to be careful if they go in the forest. We found wild pigs wallowing in a mud hole only 40 metres into the forest from our camp site. Bringing games and things for the kids to do is a good idea else they will be underfoot when you're trying to relax. A shallow pool or playground would really make this place a perfect economical camping spot for families.

It is definitely a place we would stay at again. The prices are at follows;

**
Per Night for 2 Adults:**
Powered sites from $28
Unpowered sites from $22
Additional guests $8 each. Children under 6 years of age - free. [/CENTER]

Rainforest Village can be contacted on 07 4098 9015. It is recommended that you book ahead – something we didn't do. It was very quiet and plenty of spots were available when we went.
