The Rainbow Serpent Festival format may have changed but it's still going to remain uniquely Rainbow in its heart and soul. It tells a story, a tale of the land, of destruction and resurrection, or reconciliation and healing. The event will be streaming online from the festival site and available on the Rainbow Serpent HQ Facebook page and on YouTube - Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 January 2021 from 5pm on the first day till completion of the last performance, which starts at 11pm. Sunday events begin at midday and runs till last performance which begins at 8pm.
The events of the recent past have had a significant impact on the future of this organisation. Dealing with bushfires, followed immediately by the pandemic meant refunding two festivals within a three month period. The future still remains uncertain. Your help and support is needed to get the festival through until they can host their next event. Help keep the Rainbow magic alive by spreading the word and sharing the event.
Be sure you don't miss the highlight of the stream, the Tanderrum Opening Ceremony at 7pm on the Saturday 23 Jan. Tanderrum, more popularly known as corroboree, is the celebration of music, dance and ceremony. The story begins with the Rainbow Serpent dreamtime story told by the Gulpu clan of Arnhem land, followed by Traditional Ceremonies and Dance by the Dja Dja Wurrung and Wadawurrung Peoples, who have been coming together on this shared Country for thousands of years. The tradition continues with a very special blessing from the Rainbow Serpent dreaming traditional custodians. You are welcomed to Country as a traditional smoking ceremony is shared, along with songs and dance cradled by the regenerating land.
Honour is bestowed upon connection with the Gulpu clan of Arnhem Land, who generously share ceremony and their dreaming of the Rainbow Serpent, for the rebalancing of Country and building stronger foundations of cultural integrity of the Rainbow Serpent Festival. You are invited to dance with favourite Rainbow Serpent musicians streaming from the site. You will also love the guest appearances from some of the festival's favourite international artists performing exclusive RSF2021 sets. Plus, it wouldn't be Rainbow without all the visual delights of live painters, performers and video artists.
Join your Rainbow favourite dub, glitch, techno and trance artists as they play direct from the festival site. See musical lineup in poster below and see the website for more event details. An online stream is not good enough without beguiling performers who bedazzle and delight, and Rainbow will not disappoint with Le Ron Contact Juggling, Daveonfire and HoneyBea Fusion performing feats of amazement throughout the stream; a veritable feast for the eyes, to keep you entertained.
With live painters on board, watch the image come to life with all the colours of the Rainbow by live painters Chuck Mayfield, Bryan Itch and Ash Dark. Just as impressive are the video artists the masters of visual delights who have teamed up with International artists to showcase their exclusive sets in true Rainbow style.
