To steak or not to steak that is the question
When I think of Port Melbourne I think about shipping containers and the Spirit of Tasmania, and while these are all relevant icons of Port Melbourne tucked away down Raglan Street is the best steakhouse I have ever dined at. In fact the steaks are so good I even dare to drive there, which is quite a feat for me as I hate driving, especially through the city.
What I love about the place, apart from the food of course is that it has many different areas for many different occasions. Our last visit was for a family celebration and we were seated in one of the upstairs function rooms. This was not an extra cost and the room seated 12 quite comfortably, we controlled the temperature of the room with our own air conditioner and unlike a lot of restaurant dining we were able to hear everyone at the table as it was square not rectangle that saw guests seated miles apart. There are also areas for intimate dining or for a gathering of friends. But obviously the main attraction is definitely the steak.
You even have the option to choose the piece of steak you would like and request it cooked just how you like it. Unlike some restaurants if you want medium rare it will be exactly cooked medium rare so you know you will be getting what you ask for. Your steak comes with a side of handmade chips or croquets that are just as good as the steak. No veggies or salad though but you can order these separately and an array of sauces to choose from. If you love blue cheese then I highly recommend you try that sauce as an accompaniment. For those in the family that don't like steak there is an array of other dishes to try which I have on good authority are just as good as the steak but as we don't get to Port Melbourne often for me it has to be a medium rare eye fillet with blue cheese.
Price - we'll its not cheap but You get what you pay for and will probably see you part will approximately 100 dollars each but this will see you with an entree main and dessert and possibly a drink dependant on what size steak you choose. If you love steak you'll love the Railway Club Hotel.
