Life is about the journey - some roads are not always what they seem but you sure learn a great deal from them!
Railway Heritage WA was the first formed rail preservation group and originally started out as the Australian Railway Historical Society in 1959. To date, they have an extensive collection of images and information of railway history, which is often shared with groups and schools. As part of their annual celebration, Railway Hertiage WA will be hosting the Railfest 2016 at the Railway Museum on 09 October 2016.
If you want to see the evolution of rail transport over the decades, then this is one event you want to book out in your calendar. You will have the opportunity to see full-sized and model trains, talk to the experts about the mechanics and see a real locomotive up close and personal. You can show the kids how you "travelled" back in the day which could be a hot topic at school.
Of course, there will be extras like stalls that will have new and second-hand railway products. You can also have afternoon tea in a carriage. That would make an amazing adventure for the family.
The RailFest opens at 10 am and closes at 4 pm. Entry to the event is $9.00 per adult and $4.00 per child payable at the venue. Notably, bring a camera because there is bound to be a photo worth adding to your keepsakes!
