Ragtime, the Production Company's final musical for 2019 is being staged at Arts Centre Melbourne from 2 to 10 November 2019.
Based on the 1975 novel by E. L. Doctorow, Ragtime is set in 1902, it intertwines the lives of three groups: African Americans, black ragtime pianist Coalhouse Walker Jr and his love Sarah, whose lives are devastated by racism; a white anglo saxon American family led by the conservative traditionalist Father and a Mother wanting to become her own person; Jewish refugee Tateh, who endures the hardships of life in the tenements of Manhattan's Lower East Side with his young daughter, to eventually emerge as a movie industry pioneer.
Starring in the lead roles are Kurt Kansley are Coalhouse Walker Jr, Georgina Hopson is the Mother with Alexander Lewis performs as Tateh.
Historical figures including Harry Houdini, Evelyn Nesbit, Booker T. Washington, J. P. Morgan, Henry Ford, Stanford White, Harry Kendall Thaw, Admiral Peary, Matthew Henson, and Emma Goldman are represented in the stories.
The other main cast includes Chloe Zuel, Adam Murphy, Sage Douglas, MacKenzie Dunn, Finn Alexander, John McTernan, John O'May, Anton Berezin, Joti Gore, Matt Hamilton, Louis Lucente, Ruva Ngwenya, Kempton Maloney, Hudson Sharp, Summer Hamilton and Annie Sainsbery.
The ensemble cast are Shauntai Batzke, Kaya Byrne, Mia Dabkowski-Chandler, Mark Doggett, Courtney Glass, Gareth Jacobs, Nana Matapule, Barry Mitchell, Victory Ndukwe, Greta Sherriff, Jas Smith and Angelina Thomson.

Some of the musical numbers include Journey On, The Crime of the Century, What Kind of Woman, Your Daddy's Son, Till We Reach That Day, Harry Houdini, Master Escapist, Harlem Nightclub and Look What You've Done.
