The RACV Energy Breakthrough provides an opportunity for schools and industry to cooperate in the development of innovative technology, which will result in an energy breakthrough.

The 2016 event will be staged at Princes Park Maryborough and run from 17th to 20th November.

It will see an estimated 350 Australian and international teams work to strict specifications to design, build and test their HPV's (Human Powered Vehicles) at the largest event on the Victorian HPV calendar and one of the biggest in Australia.

Teams race against each other, the clock and themselves always seeking to make every lap their new personal best.

It's a sport requiring initiative and physical fitness with drivers pushing themselves to the limit, often in searing heat and always with the risk of a crash or high-speed rollover.

The main event is a 24-hour trial in which teams of 8 riders race their Human Powered Vehicles and Hybrid Powered People Carriers around a street circuit of 1.575 kilometers at speeds which can see the top teams cover distances of 900 kilometers or more.

More than just a race, this and other HPV events have led young primary school students down a path to distinguished careers in mechanical engineering.

If there's a tinge of 'green' in you, or if you just want to see some technically and physically demanding competition make sure you're at Princes Park Maryborough from the 17th to 20th November.

Getting There
Maryborough is 170 Kilometres (about a 2 hour 15 minute drive) northwest of Melbourne via the Calder Freeway/M79 and the Pyrenees Highway/B180.
