There are some movies which become epics and are remembered long after the curtains have closed. One such movie is the
Love Bug where the famous
Volkswagen Beetle was a racing car named Herbie, who not only won the race but also the heart of the hero. From that day on, anyone who owned a Volkswagen Beetle was honoured in the same hall of fame.
The "bug" as it is favourably called was made in Germany in 1938 and it was noted for its economical use, rear engine and unconventional styling. The
new Beetle of today is still considered to be an economical car yet has its engine set in the front and is driven by the front wheels. The vehicle became so popular that countless magazines and memorabilia were sold to avid fans the world over.
On Sunday 15th July 2018, the
RACQ MotorFest will celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Volkswagen Beetle at Eagle Farm Racecourse. This year, a replica of "Herbie" will be on display alongside hundreds of other vintage, classic and veteran cars.
To register your vehicle, you can go
online or
download a registration form. The registration kit, which you will receive prior to the event, will include your vehicle's entry and a commemorative car badge. Registration closes on Friday 15th June and will cost $25.00 including GST. Discount fees apply to owners with multiple vehicles to register or car clubs registering at least ten vehicles. Multiple entries are required to be sent in the one envelope. More information can be obtained by emailing
[email protected] You may even like to dress up for the event in period costume to match your car's era. A prize will be given to the best-dressed entrant. The RACQ President's Car Award will be presented to one car only with two runners-up.
There will be lots to interest you on the day with roving entertainment, market stalls, kids rides and food stalls. All funds raised will go to support
RACQ LifeFlight ,
RACQ Capricorn Rescue ,
RACQ CQ Rescue and
Heart of Australia . This will be a fun day for the whole family.
