June can be depressing especially on days when Melbourne puts on a thick grey and wet cloak. These are the times when I start dreaming of tropical destinations by the water . Maybe the steamy warmth of Bali or at least the sunshine on the Gold Coast if I can't get out of Australia . I can now save my travel dollars and still escape the icy Melbourne chills. QV Melbourne is bringing the tropics to me.

This popular shopping mall in the city has created a beach-themed sanctuary in their square. Aptly named the 'QV Tropical Retreat', this pop-up is the summer oasis during winter.

Just think green palms, bird of paradise foliage, hanging vines, bright tropical flowers surrounding an island with a sandy beach, complete with relaxation areas for a summer drink with friends. The air is warm and thick with the scent of the tropics.

Resembling an island-style beach resort, visitors can get out of the cold and into a warm hive of Club Med-like tropical activities. Weekdays will feature free lunches from QV Melbourne's dining establishments, tropical terrarium classes, cocktail classes, fruit carving, yoga, hula competitions and free manicures. Exotic animals including a special appearance by ABC TV's Wild Action warrior Chris Humfreys will change your weekends. The delicious pineapple wedge on the island cocktail is a luxurious Queensland holiday for one lucky visitor.

Here are some of the highlights at QV Tropical Retreat for the entire month of June:

Free Lunches – QV's food retailers including Roll'd, Mad Mex, Grill'd and Shophouse kitchen will be serving tropical lunches every weekday. Be sure to get in fast for a free feed. 12pm weekdays, 4-27 June

Juice Bar – fruit juice will be served in the QV Tropical Retreat making it the perfect spot to catch up with friends or unwind during the day. 12pm-5pm, daily from 4 – 27 June

Tropical Cocktail Classes – A great way to unwind after a busy day is to head over to the QV Tropical Retreat for evening cocktail classes with the expert mixologists from Red Spice Road. Book online at the QV website. 6:30pm-7:30pm, 5, 12, 19 June

Tropical Terrarium Classes – Flower Temple will be conducting tropical terrarium making classes each Wednesday evening to help you create your own piece of tropical flora. Book online at the QV website. 6pm-7:30pm, 4, 11, 18, 25 June

Tropical Cupcake Classes – Learn how to bake tropical flavour cupcakes with the experts. The Cupcake Family will guide you. Book online at the QV website. 12:30pm-2:00pm, 4, 11, 18, 25 June

Yoga – The surrounds of QV Tropical Retreat will play host to yoga classes by QV's resident fitness experts, Fitness First. 6:30pm-7:30pm, 9, 16, 23 June

Tropical Birds – Come face-to-face with tropical birds while enjoying free tropical juices from 1pm. 12pm-3pm, 7, 8, 14, 15, 21 & 22 June

Tropical Nail Art – Want tropical nail art? Beauty experts, Goddess of Nail & Beauty will be on site offering free ways to liven up the manicures. 11am-12:30pm, 9, 16, 23 June
