Winter in Melbourne was once a cold and alienating time of staying put and hibernating. If you tucked yourself up for long enough Jack Frost and Co would simply just go away. But these days there is no reason to hide. Our city is rich with things to do in winter. All you have to do is be a little brave and step outside.

A great example of this is the , in the middle of QV in Melbourne.



Inside this makeshift lodge are soft padded armchairs, log fires and alpine scenes. Real snow, or should we say manufactured snow swirls around outside. There are even frosty windows where you can leave messages for your friends.

But it is all the freebies that are the real winter warmers.

Chocolatiers #8206 ;">Sisko and #8206 ;">San Churro are holding free chocolate and churro tastings mid-week.

Then there are free pamper sessions, including relaxing massages every Monday, yoga sessions on Thursdays and winter-themed nail manicures on the weekends.

They are also giving away 100 free lunches every day from QV Melbourne's food retailers and there is a competition for a five night winter escape for four people to Mt Hotham.

But if you don't win at least you can say you got to the Lodge this year.
